Italian Campaign
Major Allied Units
This was one of my early and somwhat outdated attempts to a create useful "Order of Battle" - organization chart - for the Mediterranean Theater of Operations.
Near the top of the MTO Order of Battle lists you'd find the Allied Fifteenth Army Group, under that the American Fifth and Seventh Armies, and the British Eighth Army.
Below the Armies were a number of Corps. Corps - although important - were fluid in composition; they were command groups rather than on-the-front-line groups.

Divisions and other combat units were often switched among Corps and even Armies depending depending on where they were on the front lines or in reserve. The focus of the soldier on the line was toward his sergeant and lieutenant; he left the chessboard of the Corps to the generals. The units listed below will find their way into new webpages showing detailed Order of Battle information.
